PHILADELPHIA, PA - Three seniors from the Atlantic 10 Conference have been selected to play in the 2007 NFHCA Division I All-Star Game, Nov. 17, in College Park, Maryland. Among the 38 senior field hockey student-athletes will be Massachusetts' Erin O'Brien, as well as Temple's Ashley Bird and Alli Lokey. The game features some of the top Division I field hockey programs in the nation.
Bird, a native of Harrisburg, Pa., has played in all 19 games for the Owls this season and recorded a total of eight points on three goals and two assists. Bird received Atlantic 10 Second Team and All-Academic honors in 2006, and was also named to the NFHCA National Academic Team for three consecutive years. She was named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Spring 2007 semester.
Lokey, who has won A-10 Player of the Week honors for the last three weeks, is currently tied for the most goals in the nation. The midfielder from Bainbridge, Pa. has made starts in all 19 games this season, notching 17 goals and eight assists. As the team's co-captain since 2006, where she was named to the A-10 First Team All-Conference and First Team NFHCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region, Lokey has six game winning goals on the season and currently leads the Owls in every offensive category.
O'Brien, a senior from Annandale, Va., has been the anchor of a defensive squad that has allowed only 0.99 goals per game and 7.2 shots per game. Both stats rank number one in the conference and near the top nationally. O'Brien and the Massachusetts defensive unit have posted eight shutouts this season. All five A-10 victories have come by way of shutout, culminating with an Oct. 21 win over five-time defending conference champion Richmond, 1-0.
The Owls will close out the 2007 regular season against Saint Joseph's on Oct. 27, while the Minutewomen have a match with Dartmouth on Oct. 24 before their regular season finale at Rhode Island on Oct. 27.
