Temple Men's Basketball Head Coach Fran Dunphy Receives Contract Extension

7/16/2008 - Temple has announced a two-year contract extension for head men's basketball coach Fran Dunphy that will keep the Owls' mentor at the University through the 2013-14 season. Dunphy, who is in his third season directing the Temple program, guided the Owls to the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Gary Forbes - Massachusetts

Forbes averaged 19.4 ppg., good for second in the Conference, and finished tied for fifth in rebounding (7.5 rpg.) the two-time A-10 Player of the Week selection shared the league lead with 18 performances of 20 or more points ranked ninth in the Conference in minutes (33.72 mpg.) and added 57 three-pointers and 41 steals the 6-7 forward/guard is the second Minuteman in as many seasons to earn the league's Player of the Year honor as Stephane Lasme took the award in 2006-07 earned honorable mention All-America honors from the Associated Press.

Player of the Week DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Stanley Burrell - Xavier
Senior, Guard, Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis HS

Burrell led a Xavier defense that ranked first in the A-10 in field goal percentage defense (.410) and second in scoring defense (63.4 ppg.) the senior guard registered 28 steals and did not foul out of a game while averaging 32.2 minutes of action.

Rookie of the Week ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Kevin Anderson - Richmond
Freshman, Guard, Duluth, Ga./Peachtree Ridge HS

A program-best seven-time A-10 Rookie of the Week selection, Anderson is the first-ever student-athlete from Richmond to be named the league's Rookie of the Year ranked third on the team in scoring (10.7 ppg.) and scored at least 20 points on two occasions in Conference play led the team in both assists (94) and steals (55) the 6-0 guard also knocked down 33 field goals from beyond the arc.

Rookie of the Week CHRIS DANIELS MOST IMPROVED PLAYER
Ricky Harris - Massachusetts
Sophomore, Guard, Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall College

Ricky Harris of Massachusetts was the recipient of the Atlantic10's Chris Daniels Award, presented to the league's most improved player the 6-2 sophomore guard averaged 18.2 ppg., good for sixth in the Conference, after averaging 4.5 points as a freshman finished tied for third in the A-10 in three-pointers made (104) and seventh in steals (1.56 spg.) the lone sophomore to be twice named A-10 Player of the Week in 2007-08, Harris scored 20 or more points in eight of the Minutemen's 16 Conference tilts.

Rookie of the Week SIXTH MAN OF THE YEAR
Josh Duncan - Xavier
Senior, Forward, Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller HS

The Xavier senior forward lead the team in scoring (11.6 ppg.) while shooting 49.6 percent (141-of-284) in just 22.4 minutes per game in A-10 contests, the Cincinnati, Ohio, resident averaged a team-high 12.8 points and shot 51 percent (25-of-49) from beyond the arc grabbed 4.7 rpg. and earned second-team All-Conference honors was named to the Phoenix Regional All-Tournament Team while leading the Musketeers to a program-record 30 victories and the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

Rookie of the Week STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Kieron Achara - Duquesne
Senior, Forward/Center, Stirling, Scotland/Maine Central Institute

For the second consecutive year, 6-9 senior forward/center Kieron Achara of Duquesne was named the A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year the Stirling, Scotland, native averaged 11.3 points and ranked second on the team with 45 blocks while guiding Dukes to their highest win total (17) since the 1993-94 campaign in the classroom, Achara boasted a 4.0 grade-point average as a graduate student in Duquesne's sports leadership program .one of 30 nominees for the Lowe's Senior Class Award, he was a three-time All-Academic Team selection.

Rookie of the Week COACH OF THE YEAR
Sean Miller - Xavier
Fourth season

Miller earned his first A-10 Coach of the Year honor after guiding Xavier to a 14-2 mark in league play, a program-best 30 overall wins, and the second Elite Eight appearance in team history led XU to its second consecutive A-10 regular season crown in four seasons as head coach of the Musketeers, Miller boasts a record of 93-39 and has led the program to three straight 20-win seasons a four-year standout at Pittsburgh, Miller graduated in 1992 with a bachelor's of arts degree in communications.
