PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Senior distance runner Sean Quigley of La Salle has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Student-Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row. The USTFCCCA honors the top nine student-athletes and coaches in nine Division I regions across the country.
Quigley - who currently holds the top 10,000m time in the country (28.03.72) - will contend for a national title at the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships in that event on Thursday, June 12, at 9:50pm (EST) at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Last year he finished fourth in the Championship 10,000m event, and was the third American finisher.
Last week, he earned NCAA All-East Team honors by finishing second in the 5,000m, just behind Villanova's Bobby Curtis.
Heading into July, Quigley has qualified for both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the Olympic Trials, held at the University of Oregon from June 27-July 4. He will most likely only run the 10,000m, which is on Saturday, July 4th at 12:20am (EST).
